Kim W. Torres, Florida Bar member since 1985, has completed 3,000+ mediations since launching her full-time practice in 2000. She holds four Florida Supreme Court certifications — Circuit Civil, Family, County Court, and Appellate — plus Federal Court and bankruptcy approval. 

Torres chaired the Florida Bar’s ADR Section in 2019–20 and serves as an Eldercaring Coordinator in Florida’s 18th Judicial Circuit pilot program. 

A native Floridian and Florida State University law graduate (Magna Cum Laude), she mediates across Brevard, Orange, Seminole, and Indian River Counties at $350/hour.

From Real Estate Law to 3,000+ Mediations

Torres joined the Florida Bar in 1985 and spent her early career practicing real estate, property transactions, and general business law. In 2000, she made a deliberate shift — away from litigation and into the room where people resolve their own problems.

That decision shaped her entire practice. Torres does not represent either side. She does not decide outcomes. She facilitates the conversation, and you and the other party own the resolution.

Since 2000, her caseload has spanned divorce and pro se divorce, family disputes and parenting plans, HOA and condominium conflicts, consumer debt and foreclosure, guardianship, probate, small business and contract disputes, and elder care coordination. 

She has a particular focus on pro se parties — people navigating divorce or other legal processes without attorney representation — and on disputes that are relationship-based, especially among family members, neighbors, and business colleagues.

Torres encourages the Collaborative Process for family, divorce, and elder matters, where all parties and professionals commit to reaching a resolution without going to court.

Kim grew up in Florida, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, Political Sciences, and International Affairs from Florida State University in 1981 (Magna Cum Laude), and received her Juris Doctor from Florida State University College of Law in 1985.

Her litigation background in real estate and general business law continues to inform her work in commercial disputes, partition actions, and contract mediations — she understands both sides of the table because she has sat on both sides.

Torres has completed advanced training well beyond core certification requirements: mortgage modification foreclosure training at the Collins Center, the American Arbitration Association, and the University of South Florida; healthcare disputes training at USF; elder and adult family mediation training; Collaborative Processes for divorce; Florida Lemon Law arbitration; and appellate mediation with the 5th DCA. Membership in the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and the Florida Circuit-Civil Mediators Society is by peer nomination and invitation only — organizations that admit mediators based on professional reputation, years of practice, and referrals from members of the legal profession.

Torres also served as a former officer of the Florida Bar’s CLE Committee, served on the Council of Sections of the Florida Bar, and held multiple Florida Bar committee appointments across her career.

Training Mediators, Speaking at Conferences, and Serving Brevard County

Torres has contributed to mediation training at every level, from peer mediation programs in Brevard County schools to statewide bar conferences.

She served as an evaluator for mediators-in-training at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Dispute Institute (DEOMI) at Patrick Air Force Base. 

She has presented at the Florida Dispute Resolution Center’s annual conference and the Florida State Guardianship Association’s annual conference, and served as a panelist for the ADR Section of the Florida Bar at the Annual Conference. 

She has facilitated seminars on Effective Communication and Professionalism for the Brevard County Bar Association and spoken on Communicating Through Conflict for the American Business Women’s Association.

As part of the Eldercaring Coordination pilot program, Torres works with high-conflict families seeking assistance in the care of elderly relatives — a growing area of Florida mediation at the intersection of guardianship, family dynamics, and medical decision-making.

Co-Mediation With a Board-Certified Trial Attorney for Complex Cases

For medical malpractice, complex commercial disputes, and multiparty mediations, Torres co-mediates with a Board Certified Civil Trial Attorney who brings over 30 years of complex litigation experience. 

This pairing gives both sides subject matter expertise and advanced mediation skills in the same session. These commercial and contract mediations can be held anywhere in Florida.

Board Service, Community Organizations, and Professional Memberships

Torres has served on the boards of the Brevard County Bar Foundation, the Family Counseling Center of Brevard, the Junior League of Space Coast, and the Space Coast Guardianship Association. She is a member of the League of Women Voters of Space Coast and currently serves on the board of the Brevard Collaborative Association.

She holds memberships in the Florida Bar, the Florida Academy of Professional Mediators, the Brevard County Bar Association, the Brevard Association of Women Lawyers, the Florida Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the Texas Association of Mediators, the National Association of Professional Women, the Collins Center for Public Policy, and the Hillsborough County Bar Foundation RMFM program.

$350/Hour With Sessions Available Within 1–3 Days

Torres charges $350 per hour with a two-hour minimum for virtual mediations and a three-hour minimum for in-person sessions. Foreclosure mediations start at a flat $450, based on the county. 

HOA disputes and mediations involving unrepresented parties start at $300 per hour. Cancellations within two business days of the scheduled session incur a fee equal to two hours of mediation. Rescheduled mediations within four weeks incur no fee.

Torres mediates regularly in Brevard, Orange, Seminole, and Indian River Counties, with conference rooms available in any Florida county.
